Baylor adds former NBA draft pick

The news is almost a week old, but still shocking: James Nnaji, a 7-foot center selected 31st overall in the 2023 NBA Draft will play college basketball. Nnaji never signed an NBA contract or appeared in an NBA or G League regular-season game, making only Summer League appearances. As a result, the NCAA granted him immediate eligibility with four years remaining.

But WAIT, there’s more. Over the weekend, On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Trentyn Flowers, a 20-year-old, 6-foot-9 wing on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, was “drawing interest” from several high-major college basketball programs. Flowers has logged NBA regular-season minutes, appearing in six games for the Clippers last season and two games for the Bulls so far this season.

Then on Sunday, Shannon Terry, founder and CEO of On3 Sports, issued a public apology on X (formerly Twitter) over the report. His statement read: “On behalf of On3, I apologize for the poorly produced report on Trentyn Flowers from this morning. The reporting fell below our standards. It was addressed immediately, and we introduced additional training measures with the author so that it will not happen again.”

The apology followed Tipton’s initial article, which listed more than a dozen programs as showing interest in Flowers. Several schools, including Kentucky, Florida, Michigan, Indiana, Clemson, and Texas Tech, quickly denied involvement.
