Kansas wins - as Darryn Peterson finally speaks
It’s no secret that the on-again, off-again play of Darryn Peterson saga has become the biggest story in college basketball.
Well Monday, we may have finally started to get a resolution, as we got a rarity at Phog Allen Fieldhouse late into the night: Peterson both started and finished the game for the Jayhawks, in a relatively easy 69-56 win.
In terms of the on the court, Peterson was solid if not spectacular, finishing with 14 points, as senior Tre White led the way with 23. But Peterson looked healthy, moved well and again played start to finish.
We also got a different kind of rarity after the game, as Peterson spoke the media. It was the first time in weeks Kansas made him available to the press.
The Jayhawks win was part of a busy day for Peterson, who was also part of an extended sit down with ESPN.
The highlight of the article was Peterson letting the critics know: He loves basketball and wants to be on the court as much as he can be.
"Basketball is my life," he told ESPN. "If I could have been out there every game this year, I would have. If you would have asked me last year, what were my goals for this year, I would never mention missing games. So all this stuff kind of just happened, but I've got to deal with it."
With a fully healthy Peterson complimenting an already loading roster, Kansas very much looked the part of a title contender Monday.
Let’s hope going forward, the focus can remain on basketball.
