St John’s STAR RJ Luis Jr. is coming back to College Basketball
Will Wade does not clear about the NCAA’s boring, old rules on who’s actually “eligible” and who’s not.
He is pushing every boundary imaginable, and if there is any doubt he showed it this week.
On Tuesday was maybe his boldest move yet, as LSU announced they added RJ Luis to their 2026-2027 roster. If the name sounds familiar, Luis Jr. was the Big East Player of the Year in 2024-25 after averaging 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds as a junior at St. John's. St. John’s lost to Arkansas Razorbacks in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
After the season, Luis opted to forego his senior year and declare for the NBA Draft where he went undrafted. Luis then signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz before being traded to the Boston Celtics. After being waived by Boston, he signed with their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, but was later waived while injured.
Now, he wants to come back to college basketball.
Like Charles Bediako it comes after he stayed in the NBA Draft after the deadline, and like Bediako, by rule he won’t be eligible according to the NCAA. Remember during the Bediako fiasco, NCAA president Charlie Baker said that any player who has played in an NBA game or signed an NBA contract (including two-ways) is not eligible to play NCAA basketball.
Yet, LSU plans to bring him in next year anyway.
And here’s the crazy part: Luis may not be the only former Celtic to suit up for LSU this season, as a European outlet reported on Monday that Israeli guard Yam Madar - who was drafted in 2020, yes… 2020!!!! - plans to sign with LSU.
While we on Luis’ eligibility and if Madar is actually coming to LSU, the Tigers added one more name late on Tuesday, adding former NBA Draft pick Saliou Niang as well.
Safe to say, Wade and LSU are pushing every boundary of what’s allowable according to NCAA rules right now. And plenty aren’t happy about it.

Brendan Sorsby files lawsuit against NCAA + we find out what exactly he was betting on
First, a quick review:
Texas Tech has declared starting quarterback Brendan Sorsby ineligible. The school is filing for reinstatement though. The NCAA began reviewing Sorsby’s case in April after he entered a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction.
Sorsby filed for an injunction, in a local court with a Texas Tech alum Judge by the way, that would allow him to play while the case proceeds through court. If granted, Sorsby is expected to remain at Texas Tech and receive $6 million in NIL money.
If the injunction is denied, entering the NFL supplemental draft is likely the next step for Sorsby. His legal team has argued the gambling stemmed from a true addiction rather than financial gain and noted he never bet on games in which he played.
Sorsby clarified that he never bet on Indiana football games while dressed or involved in the team’s game plan, saying the wagers only occurred during his time as a scout team player.
New details reveal that Sorsby bet on a wide variety of sporting events, including MLB, UFC, tennis, Romanian soccer, Turkish basketball and even the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held annually on the Fourth of July.

Jay Bilas pushes back on College Basketball roster cost concerns. Main quote — “What’s the problem? Do we think the players are worth less than the coaches? They’re not. So when you look at their coaching staff and their support staff, they make more than the players. In no multi-billion dollar sport do the coaches make more than the players. Is it going to cost that? Yes, and it should. They’re making a boatload off these players and the players deserve to bargain for their fair market value just like everyone else.” (On3 article)
